The San Jose Sharks, in conjunction with NHL Street, will be hosting the annual Sharks and Parks street hockey tournament on Saturday, Sept. 25. The tournament will be held in the HP Pavilion Parking lot with games scheduled from 9 a.m. until 1:10 p.m.
Over 200 kids on 14 teams from all over the Bay Area will compete for the chance to be crowned champions of their age division. Participants can compete in three divisions; 7-9, 10-12, and 13-15 year-olds. The HP Pavilion Parking lot will be transformed into a hockey extravaganza featuring four rinks with boards and each rink will host six games.
S.J. Sharkie will be on hand for the event and following the tournament, all of the participating teams will be invited to watch the Sharks take on the Phoenix Coyotes in the pre-season opener at HP Pavilion. Participants will also be treated to a Round Table Pizza lunch.
Started in 1991, Sharks & Parks has reached tens of thousands of kids by donating street hockey equipment and instructional material to schools and community centers throughout Northern California. The program was so successful that the NHL adopted it as a league-wide initiative the following year with 33 programs run by various NHL and American Hockey League (AHL) teams throughout the United States and Canada.
