Sharks Acquire Forward Ben Smith from the Blackhawks in Exchange for Andrew Desjardins

SAN JOSE, CA - San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the team has acquired forward Ben Smith and a conditional 2017 draft selection from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for forward Andrew Desjardins.

Smith, 26, has appeared in 61 games this season with Chicago, posting nine points (five goals, four assists).

In 156 games with Chicago, Smith has accumulated 39 points (23 goals, 16 assists) and four penalty minutes. He was originally selected by Chicago in the sixth round (169th overall) in the 2008 NHL Draft.

Desjardins, 28, has recorded eight points (five goals, three assists) in 56 games with San Jose this season. He has played in 272 career NHL games with San Jose, collecting 48 points (15 goals, 33 assists), along with 248 penalty minutes.

Desjardins was originally selected by San Jose as a free agent on June 10, 2010.
