On Thursday, San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson  acquired defenseman J.D. Forrest from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for future considerations.

In 19 games with the Albany River Rats this season, Forrest has posted 10 points (3 goals, 7 assists) and 16 penalty minutes. He has also spent time with the Florida Everblades (12 games, one goal, seven assists) and Elmira Jackals (two games, zero points), both of the East Coast Hockey League.

The five-foot-nine, 185-pound native of Auburn, NY was selected in the sixth round (181st overall) in 2000 NHL Entry Draft by the Carolina Hurricanes.

Forrest will report to Worcester, the Sharks top development affiliate in the American Hockey League.
