SAN JOSE, Calif -- San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the team has acquired second round selections in the 2009 and 2010 NHL Entry Drafts from Buffalo in exchange for defenseman Craig Rivet and a seventh round selection in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
Rivet, 33, appeared in 91 regular season games with the Sharks, posting 43 points (6-36=43). He was acquired along with a fifth round selection in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft in exchange for defenseman Josh Gorges and the Sharks first round selection in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft on Feb. 25, 2007. Rivet has 194 career points (45-149=194) in his 13 seasons with San Jose and Montreal.
“Under the cap system, difficult decisions have to be made and this is one of them,” said Wilson. “Craig is a true professional and we would like to thank him for everything that he has done here.”
