Sharks 2006-07 Schedule Announced

by Staff Writer / San Jose Sharks
The San Jose Sharks will open their 16th NHL season at home on Oct. 5 against the St. Louis Blues. The team will play their first road game on Oct. 9 against the Calgary Flames. The 2006-07 Sharks schedule consists of 82 games – 41 home and 41 road contests.

The home schedule features 17 weekend contests (three Friday, 12 Saturday and two Sunday). The busiest home weeknight is Thursday (11), followed by Tuesday (seven), and Wednesday and Monday (three).

The Sharks will play Pacific Division rivals (Anaheim, Dallas, Los Angeles and Phoenix) eight times each for a total of 32 games, in addition to playing members of the Western Conference’s Northwest (Calgary, Colorado, Edmonton, Minnesota and Vancouver) and Central Divisions (Chicago, Columbus, Detroit, Nashville and St. Louis) four times each (40 games).

The Sharks three-way intra-state rivalry continues with the Anaheim Ducks (Dec. 16 and 26 and Feb. 6 and 26) and the Los Angeles Kings (Nov. 22, Dec. 14, March 27 and April 1) each making four visits to San Jose.

Other popular out-of-town guests include the Western Conference Champion Edmonton Oilers (Jan. 10 and March 11), Calgary Flames (Dec. 23 and April 5), Colorado Avalanche (Dec. 7 and Jan. 15), Dallas Stars (Oct. 17, Dec. 21, Jan. 30 and Feb. 1), Detroit Red Wings (Oct. 19 and Jan. 4), Phoenix Coyotes (Dec. 11 and 28, Jan. 18 and March 30) and the Vancouver Canucks (March 9 and April 7).

Against the Eastern Conference, San Jose will play each team in the Atlantic Division (New Jersey, New York Islanders, New York Rangers, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh) once at home but will not play them on the road. The Sharks will play each team in the Southeast Division (Atlanta, Carolina, Florida, Tampa Bay and Washington) exclusively on the road. The Sharks will face the defending Stanley Cup Champion Carolina Hurricanes at the RBC Center in Raleigh, North Carolina on March 24. The Sharks will not play any Northeast Division opponents during the 2006-07 regular season.

The Sharks longest homestand of the year is six games from Dec. 14 – 28. There is a four-game homestand from Jan. 30 – Feb. 6 and seven three-game homestands: Oct. 17 – 21, Nov. 2 – 7, Dec. 7 – 11, Jan. 4 – 10, Jan. 15 – 20, March 9 – 13, and March 27 – April 1 at HP Pavilion.
