Bystedt, 18, recorded 49 points (16 goals, 33 assists) in 40 games with Linkoping HC in the J20 Nationell, Sweden's top junior hockey level. In the second half of the season, Bystedt finished with the most assists (18) and fourth-most points (23) in 18 games in the J20 Nationell Top 10 group, a separate circuit featuring the top-ranked clubs from early season play in the J20 Nationell regional divisions. The center then led the J20 Nationell playoffs in assists (nine) and was tied-first in points (10). Bystedt helped Linkoping win the J20 Nationell Final with a pair of assists in a 5-2 win over Djurgardens IF on April 10. He also tallied two points (one goal, one assist) in 15 games for Linkoping HC in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) along with three points (one goal, two assists) in two games in the J18 Region.
In 2020-21, Bystedt notched 12 points (five goals, seven assists) in 15 games in his first season at the J20 Nationell level and appeared in one SHL game for Linkoping HC. Bystedt's 12 points ranked third in the J20 Nationell for scoring by U17 players.
Internationally, Bystedt helped Sweden to a third-place finish at the 2021 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, recording seven points (three goals, four assists) in five games, and a first-place finish at the 2022 World U18 Championship, with three points (one goal, two assists) in six games. Bystedt was ranked as the No. 17 European Skater by NHL Central Scouting.
The Sharks now hold ten selections on Day Two of the 2022 NHL Draft, which will resume tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. PT on NHL Network and ESPN+. San Jose is scheduled to make picks in the second (34 via ARI, 45 via ARI), third (76), fourth (108), fifth (138 via BUF, 140), sixth (172) and seventh (195 via ARI, 204, 217 via MIN) rounds.
The Sharks have never made 11 selections in a draft since the NHL moved to a seven-round draft format starting in 2005.
