SAN JOSE –

), the National Hockey League’s reining Western Conference Champions, and San Jose local craft brewery Gordon Biersch announced today the debut of CHUM, new, dry-hopped red ale.
“Chum” is a collaborative effort between both Gordon Biersch and the San Jose Sharks. After several rounds of development and tasting, the exact level of dry hopping was fine-tuned. The color red and the name “Chum” were obvious based on the characteristics of ocean dwelling Sharks and their taste preferences. Chum has a malty 7.2% ABV and 42 bitterness units created by flavorful Hallertau and Tettnang hops. The beer will be available in both bottle and draft form and will be sold at SAP Center at San Jose, Safeway, and other retail/restaurants throughout the Bay Area.
“The San Jose Sharks and Gordon Biersch Brewery are two fantastic, local brands that resonate with both hockey fans and beer enthusiasts throughout San Jose and the entire Bay Area,” said John Tortora, Chief Operating Officer of Sharks Sports & Entertainment. “I am confident Sharks fans who sample ‘Chum’ will enjoy the results of this exciting partnership.”
“Dreams do come true,” said Dan Gordon, brewing engineer and founder of Gordon Biersch Brewing. “Since I wasn’t selected as the starting 56-year-old defenseman, seeing ‘Chum’ iced down in tubs throughout SAP Center is about as close to the ice as I can get. We even considered icing down the tank cellar surface in the brewery in order to get the creative juices flowing.”

About Gordon Biersch
Dan Gordon’s lifelong dream was realized in March of 1997 when the first batch of beer was brewed at our state-of-the-art brewing and bottling facility, located in San Jose, California. The 114,000 square foot facility was designed and engineered by Dan Gordon, who did not spare any detail. Although we recreate old world authentic recipes, we use modern day techniques and technology. The brewery operates 24/7 and uses the highest quality two-row malted barley, Hallertauer hops, and German yeast from Weihenstephan, to ensure that quality is never sacrificed.
