Keith Kinkaid made 37 saves for the Devils (3-0-0), who denied the Sharks on three power-play opportunities. Kinkaid made five saves in the final 1:50 during a too-many-men minor when San Jose held a 6-on-4 advantage.
"Everybody was sacrificing their bodies; the Sharks are a shoot-mentality team so they throw everything to the net," Kinkaid said. "I think we did a good job systematically and I just had to make the saves."
The Devils were outshot 39-36, but held an 18-10 advantage in the third.
"Keith's played great and he's made some big timely saves," said Palmieri, who has a three-game goal streak. "He's kept us in games or given us momentum when maybe things were getting sloppy in our own end. He's done more than you can ask of a starting goalie, and hopefully he continues to make those saves."
Palmieri scored on a two-man advantage to tie the game 1-1 at 7:06 into the second. Taylor Hall (two assists) sent a pass from the right-wing boards into the left face-off circle to Palmieri, who became the fourth player in NHL history to score multiple goals in at least three consecutive games to open a season, joining Patrick Marleau (four games in 2012-13), Peter Stastny (three games, 1982-83) and Cy Denneny (three games, 1917-18).

SJS@NJD: Palmieri snaps a power-play goal past Jones

"I've never had a start like this in the NHL, that's for sure," Palmieri said. "Being able to come out with two points and be 3-0-0 after our first full week of games is the start we were looking for, and hopefully we keep it going."
Joe Pavelski and Timo Meier scored and Martin Jones made 33 saves for the Sharks (2-3-1), who played the last of a five-game road trip.
"We're not scoring enough and not getting enough saves; it's a bad combination," Sharks coach Peter DeBoer said. "We have to find a way to get another goal a night, and part of that is power play and part of that is 5-on-5. We have to find a way to get another save a night. Part of that is defending a little tighter and part of that is getting another save."
Meier scored off a snap shot from the left face-off circle 15:35 into the second period to give the Sharks a 2-1 lead.
Pavelski scored off a rebound from the slot 3:51 into the second to give the Sharks a 1-0 lead. The goal was Pavelski's 700th NHL point (320 goals, 380 assists) in 894 games.

SJS@NJD: Pavelski buries rebound for 700th point

"This game felt like a couple of the others we lost," Pavelski said. "It was right there for us. A few chances on the power play, all those situations. We expect to win these, and that's why they are frustrating right now."

They said it

"I think when you lose games you're not doing many things correct. We're not scoring enough, we're not creating enough Grade A looks. Our power play has not been good. There are lots of reasons." -- Sharks forward Logan Couture
"I told him after the second period, don't stop at one goal. He's scoring different goals too. He scores when they're bouncing off of him, on the power play, and he's at net front. That's his game and we need him to continue to do that. I don't know if realistically we can count on him for two a game but he's done it for three, so why not keep it going." -- Devils captain Andy Greene on forward Kyle Palmieri
