Ryan Scores First Career NHL Goal

On Saturday, February 10, rookie defenseman Joakim Ryan scored his first - and second - National Hockey League goals against the Edmonton Oilers. The goals came in his 46th career NHL game, after Ryan had already scored 7 assists.

But Joakim Ryan wasn't done with one goal. Later on in the game, with 2:27 left in the third period and the score tied 4-4, Ryan decided to un-tie the game.
Timo Meier brings the puck into the zone, and passes it to a streaking Ryan. Ryan shoots on Al Montoya, the Oilers goalie, and Montoya kicks out the rebound. Ryan follows his shot and picks up the rebound, putting it into the net to the delight of the home crowd.

Joakim Ryan was a seventh round pick of the San Jose Sharks in 2012, spending four years at Cornell University before going pro and joining the Worcester Sharks and then the San Jose Barracuda. Ryan spent last season as one of the anchors Barracuda defense, scoring 10 goals and 39 assists for 49 points in 65 regular season games. He also scored 11 points in 15 playoff games.
