Russian Hockey Legends to Visit Sharks Ice, Battle with Former San Jose Sharks/Jr. Sharks Legends on June 27

SAN JOSE, California –
In honor and recognition of the 40th Anniversary of the historic 1972 Summit Series, the Russian Legends hockey team is doing a tour of California staging charitable good-will hockey games against local alumni.

The Russian Legends Hockey Team tour will visit Sharks Ice at San Jose on Wed., June 27th at 7:00pm to face off against the San Jose Sharks and San Jose Jr. Sharks Legends. Admission is $10 per person at the door and all proceeds will benefit the Jr. Sharks Scholarship Fund thru the Norcal Rep. Scholarship Fund. Tickets will also be on sale at Sharks Ice at San Jose on Wednesday at 4:30pm. Line will begin OUTSIDE the building in front of the North Rink (follow signage).

Expected participants for the Russian Legends team include: Yury Shatalov, Sergey Gimeav, Yury Lyankin, Alexey Kasatonov, Evgeny Davydov, Roman Ilyin, Igor Boldin, Alexander Golikov, Vladimir Mashukov, Victor Shalimov and Alexander Yakushev.

Scheduled to play for the San Jose Legends team are former Sharks players Owen Nolan, Evgeni Nabokov, Curtis Brown, David Maley and Kyle McLaren, as well as current Jr. Sharks Coaches Sean Castagna, Darrell Draper, Robert Savoie, and Nate Weossner.

“This year we are celebrating the anniversary of one of the greatest hockey duels in the world of hockey – the 1972 USSR vs. Canada Summit Series,” says Yakushev.

“It is an honor to welcome these world class players to Sharks Ice at San Jose,” said Sharks Ice General Manager Jon Gustafson.

Immediately following the game, fans are welcome to attend a reception in Stanley’s Sports Bar from 9-11:00 p.m. for a chance to mingle with the Russian and San Jose players. This reception is free of charge but all attendees MUST have a ticket from the game to attend the reception. Admittance will be first come first served and space will be very limited.
