We welcome your predictions as well… so look into your crystal ball, magic eight ball, ask your pet, or look into the stars and come up with your predictions as the Sharks get ready to battle the Kings in Round 1.

But before we preview Game 1 and reveal the Game 1 SPARK – let’s take a look at the series as a whole and determine the one SPARK that will lead the Sharks to a series victory over the LA Kings.

The Sharks battled all regular season to grab home ice in the first round on the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Why you ask? Because of the 17,562 strong expected at the SAP Center on Thursday night!

Here are a few other reasons why the Sharks are happy to have home ice.

QUESTION 1: Which team had the best record in the NHL on home ice this season?

ANSWER – Boston – The Boston Bruins had a 31-7-3- record (65pts) on home ice this season… but the Sharks were 2nd in the NHL and had the best home ice record in the Western Conference with a 29-7-5 record (63pts) at the SAP Center. BTW – LA finished 14th in the NHL with a 23-14-4 (50pts) on home ice.

QUESTION 2: In the playoff series last year between the Sharks and the Kings, how many times did the home team win in the seven game series?

ANSWER – the home team won all 7 games (LA had home ice advantage and won the series 4-3)

QUESTION 3: What is the Sharks franchise record on home ice in the playoffs?

ANSWER – 46W-38L (.548 win %)

FOLLOW UP QUESTION – What is the Sharks franchise record on home ice in Game 7s?

ANSWER – 2W-0L (1.000 win %) – just in case we go 7 again vs. the Kings!

Cash Money on Home Ice:

Look for the below players to SHINE on their home ice and provide a SPARK in this series (we will take a look at some of the road warriors as the series carries on)

Top 3 Sharks on Home Ice:
Pavelski – 43pts (19-24-43) in 41gp – 6th best in NHL
Thornton – 42pts (7-35-42) in 41gp – 11th best in NHL
Burns – 33pts (18-15-33) in 38gp – 33rd best in NHL

Top 3 Kings on Home Ice:
Kopitar – 42pts (15-27-42) in 41gp – 9th best in NHL
Williams – 30pts (12-18-30) in 41gp – 60th best in NHL
Doughty – 24pts (6-18-24) in 40gp – 120th best in NHL

We Have History:

The home teams in the San Jose vs. LA series have a 20-1-1 record in the last 22 games between the two teams (including playoffs). – the Sharks have a possible four games scheduled at the SAP Center in the series; the LA Kings have just a possible three games scheduled at the Staples Center. The San Jose Sharks all-time record vs. the LA Kings on home ice 42-19-3-2 in the regular season; 4-2-0-0 in the playoffs.

When I was a young kid an old-timer at the horse track at Suffolk Downs in Revere, MA told me that the “Trend is your Friend”! The Sharks are going to make their playoff seeding payoff in their first round series vs. the Kings and take the series in 6. Look for a low scoring, high intensity, and home ice advantage fueled series vs. the Kings. The Trend will be the Sharks friend in Round 1 by taking the series 4-2. (Sharks will steal a game in LA and sweep on home ice).
