Rollin’ Ice at Silver Creek Sportsplex is currently hosting the NARCh (North American Roller Hockey Championships) Finals – the premier event in the inline hockey world. The event, which began on July 11, will conclude on July 27 and will have drawn more than 400 teams from around the world when all is said and done.
The president of Silver Creek Sportsplex, former San Jose Shark and Stanley Cup winner David Maley, who founded Rollin’ Ice more than ten years ago, is responsible for the huge tournament that is packing San Jose hotels.
“We’re honored to host the 2008 NARCh Finals. So many of our staff and local teams have played at NARCh over the years, we're thrilled to be able to welcome the event to San Jose,” said Maley. “This is the first time it has been held in the West, and another example of how the sport of hockey has grown in California.”
It’s worth the trip over to “the Plex” just to see the venue. The facility, less than two years old, features state-of-the-art all-glass boards that offer an unparalleled view of the action. In addition to the three inline hockey rinks, there’s a pro shop, four indoor fields for soccer, lacrosse, dodgeball, and flag football, a spectacular Club One fitness center, a huge party area called LOL Parties, and the High Five at the Plex restaurant/sports bar in the middle of it all. During NARCh, a number of vendors are displaying the latest in inline hockey gear, as well.
Divisions range from the 6-and-under Cubs to Adults, including Club, Silver, Gold, and Platinum in most categories. The NARCh PRO series begins July 24, and there are skills competitions throughout the 17-day event.
