Prospect Spotlight: Jayden Halbgewachs

Few players in the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) have shown more consistency than San Jose Sharks newest prospect, Jayden Halbgewachs. In each of his four seasons with the WHL's Moose Jaw Warriors, he has improved in large increments.
Last season he scored 50 goals in 71 games and was just one goal short of leading the Western Hockey League (WHL). This season, he has already passed the 50-goal mark, but in 23 fewer games. With a considerable goal scoring lead in the entire CHL (comprised of the WHL, OHL and the QMJHL), it is exciting to see the Sharks add another significant player to their prospect pool.

In 48 games this season, he currently has 91 points (51 goals and 40 assists) and is on pace to score more than 76 goals. He could very well break the Moose Jaw Warriors single season goal-scoring record (70) set by Blair Atcheynum in the 1989-90 season.
Pavel Brendl was the last player to score more than 70 goals in the WHL and that was in the 1998-99 season. The last player to score over 70 goals in the CHL was John Tavares in 2006-07.
"Jayden's impact on our organization has been very big," said Warriors Head Coach Tim Hunter. "It starts with having great character and work ethic and his teammates love him. Jayden's playing style will allow him to be a Johnny Gaudreau type of player, being able to use his speed and quickness to evade defenders and create scoring chances. Jayden works hard at his game and wants to be a NHL player. With his commitment and work ethic, coupled with his talent level he should play in the NHL for a long time."
Since Halbgewachs went undrafted this past offseason, he was available to sign and the San Jose Sharks were thrilled to give him his first NHL contract. The Sharks have had tremendous success in bringing in overlooked players who were undrafted or unsigned. Forwards Joonas Donskoi and Melker Karlsson as well as goaltender Aaron Dell went through similar situations.
Halbgewachs will likely see time with the San Jose Barracuda next season and could get a significant look with the Sharks during their training camp.
