Prospect Spotlight: Dylan Gambrell

As the NCAA Hockey regular season winds down, Denver University forward and Sharks prospect Dylan Gambrell is just heating up. The sophomore dominated his two games last weekend against St. Cloud State, scoring two goals the first game and racking up three assists the next night.
For his efforts, Gambrell was named NCHC Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season, as well as the NCAA's Second Star of the Week.
The 20-year-old center now finds himself leading the Pioneers offensively. In 29 games this season, Gambrell has 11 goals and 23 assists to go along with a +16 rating. Although Gambrell leading the charge should be expected, he was named by College Hockey News to the Preseason All-CHN 1st team this year.

His freshman year was just as spectacular. Gambrell registered 17 goals and 30 assists in 41 games last season, finishing second on the team in scoring while taking over as the team's top center.
"Gambrell is a strong skater, especially with his first few steps which allows him to reach top speed very quickly. He utilizes that speed effectively on both offense to gain zone entry and defensively when pressuring on the puck. He's excellent at taking away time and space for forcing the opposition into mistakes." -

The Sharks drafted the 6'0", 185 pound center in the 2nd round (60th overall) in the 2016 NHL Draft.
"I noticed him right off the bat, just his speed and tenacity,"
Barracuda coach Roy Sommer said during the Sharks summer developmental camp.
"He gets after it. He's got a good shot. He's around the net. He thinks the game well, just from the four days I've seen him. He's the real deal."
Maybe most importantly, he has great taste in choosing favorite teams. Depsite growing up in Washington, the Sharks were his favorite team.
"The (Vancouver) Canucks are closer, but I got a bunch of family that lives in San Jose and both my parents are from the area. So it's pretty cool,"

Gambrell still has two years of eligibility at Denver, and whether he plays those years out or leaves early, he seems to be a lock to wear teal in the near future.
