Power Rankings: In The Year 2000...

Well, it's happened. At this year's NHL draft, most of the players drafted will have been born in the year 2000. That's right, players who will play in the NHL next season were born in the new millennium.
In honor of this "wow I feel old" fact, here are some of the major pop culture happenings that occurred at the turn of the millennium, right when many of these prospects were born.
8. 28 NHL teams
That's right, just 28 teams. The Minnesota Wild, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Vegas Golden Knights had yet to take the ice when the year 2000 began. How weird is it to think about a time where there isn't 31 teams in the league?

7. SpongeBob Squarepants premiered

Finally, as one millennium turned into another, we were able to answer this immortal question: "Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?"
6. Survivor premieres

Now somehow in its 37th season only 18 years later, the first season of this reality show was the most popular show in the US and launched the reality show trend.
5. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

The fourth book of this children's book franchise was released, whose end twist was only later topped by Half-Blood Prince's "Snape killed Dumbledore" twist. (Whoops, spoilers).
4. Millennium by Backstreet Boys was released

While naming an album after 1,000 years seems Larger Than Life, the band said "I Want It That Way" and decided that name was The One and that It's Gotta Be You, and No One Else Comes Close.
And uhhh something something Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely.
3. Razor Scooters

People went nuts over scooters, riding them everywhere. They were the hottest form of transport for kids and adults alike, but also a little bit annoying.
Oh wait, sorry, forgot we weren't talking about those electric scooters that are literally everywhere in San Jose right now.
2. Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace

After almost a two decade wait, a new Star Wars movie was released and everyone went crazy over this new character Jar Jar Binks.

Remember when everyone freaked out about all the computers crashing and the world descending into chaos? These draft picks sure don't.
