PlayStation 3 Stars Award For Thornton

by San Jose Sharks Staff / San Jose Sharks

The San Jose Sharks announced today that center Joe Thornton is the winner of the 2007-08 PlayStation Three Stars of the Game award.  Joe will be honored with an award from PlayStation, in a presentation that will follow tonight’s game against the Los Angeles Kings at HP Pavilion at San Jose.  On behalf of the winner, Sony Computer Entertainment will present a check for $2,500 to The Sharks Foundation and Thornton will receive a PlayStation 3 with a VIP pack of games.

Entering play tonight, Thornton sits first on the team and fifth among all NHL scorers with 93 points (28 goals, 65 assists) along with a plus-20 rating.  He is first in the NHL in assists and was just recently announced as the “First Star of the Week” by the NHL for the week ending March 30 when he potted seven goals and added an assist in four games.
This season, Thornton appeared in his 700th NHL game (Dec. 8 vs. Buffalo), scored his 700th NHL point (Dec. 20 vs. Phoenix) and picked up his 500th NHL assist (Feb. 17 at NY Rangers). He made his fifth career NHL All-Star appearance and moved into fourth place on the Sharks all-time scoring list with 299 points (70 goals, 229 assists) and a plus-75 in only 219 games with San Jose.

At the end of each 2007-08 regular season game, players received five points for being chosen first star, three points for second star and one point for third star as listed on the official NHL game sheet distributed by the game’s official scorekeepers.  Each star is chosen by members of the media based on the player’s performance each game.
