When Marcel Mallais decided to work from home today, he had a pretty good idea that he would be receiving a significant delivery at his front door. He just didn’t know from whom that delivery would come.
Much to his delight, Mallais received his 2010-11 Sharks season tickets as promised. Much to his surprise, delivering the package was none other than gritty Sharks Forward Scott Nichol.
This afternoon, Nichol and a few of his Sharks teammates continued what has become a preseason tradition of personally handing out season tickets to account holders. Also making special deliveries throughout San Jose were Joe Thornton
, Jason Demers
, Torrey Mitchell
, Niclas Wallin, Ryane Clowe
, Logan Couture
, Frazer McLaren, Jamal Mayers, Marc-Edouard Vlasic
and Jamie McGinn.
Just days ago, Mallais, a 10-year season ticket holder from Calgary who regularly attends games with his wife, was contacted by his season-ticket account service manager that his season tickets would be delivered to his home and that he should be there to receive the package.
For Mallais, it was well-worth the time away from the office.
“When he got here I felt like a little girl going to a Justin Bieber concert,” said Mallais. “I was pretty excited. My family and I, we’re all fans of Scott Nichol and his style of play. It was pretty cool to have him here to deliver our season tickets. I thought it was a real nice touch.”
And just as the fans were excited to meet their favorite Sharks players, the players were just as thrilled to meet their fans.
“There are such passionate fans here in San Jose and they support our team so well,” said Nichol. “It’s nice to be able to come out and meet the fans face-to-face and hand them their tickets for the upcoming season. I’m sure they’re just as excited about the season as we are.”
Monday and Tuesday the rest of the team, as well as Sharks TV play-by-play announcer Randy Hahn, will venture out to a few more select homes to continue with the deliveries.
