Pavelski, USA advance to play Russia in IIHF Semi-finals

Team USA struck for three second-period goals this afternoon and defeated Finland 3-2 in the Quarterfinal round of the IIHF World Championships in Switzerland.


The win catapults the United States into Friday’s Semi-final game against Russia.

Nashville Predators defenseman Ryan Suter scored the game-winning goal and added one assist. St. Louis Blues forward T.J. Oshie and Los Angeles Kings captain Dustin Brown also had goals for Team USA.

Sharks center Joe Pavelski did not score for Team USA, but has one assist in the tournament.

Friday's game against Russia is at 7:15 a.m. PDT.

IIHF QUARTERFINALS CONTINUE TOMORROW

Two more Sharks players will compete tomorrow in the Quarterfinal round of the IIHF World Championships in Switzerland.

Defenseman Marc-Edouard Vlasic and the rest of Team Canada will face Latvia at 7:15 a.m. PDT and winger Milan Michalek will try to lead his Czech Republic over Sweden at 11:15 a.m. PDT.
