SAN JOSE –
San Jose Sharks center Joe Pavelski
was invited by USA Hockey to participate in the Men’s Olympic Orientation Camp from August 17-19 at Seven Bridges Ice Arena in Woodridge, Illinois.
"Obviously it was a goal of mine to be invited and it would be a great honor to play on the Olympic Team," said Pavelski in an interview with SJSHARKS.com on Tuesday. "It was an exciting call to get, but there is still a lot of work to do.”
Pavelski, 24, has represented the United States at the 2009 World Championships and at the 2004 Viking Cup. Having just completed his third year in the National Hockey League with the Sharks, Pavelski set career highs in goals (25), assists (34) and points (59). In 208 games with the Sharks, he has posted 127 points (58-69=127).
The 5-foot-11, 195-pound native of Stevens Point, Wisconsin was originally selected by the Sharks in the seventh round (205th overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. He will be joined at the camp by Sharks Head Athletic Trainer Ray Tufts and Equipment Manager Mike Aldrich.
Nineteen forwards, 12 defensemen and three goalies made the first cut. Eighteen were first-round draft picks and 11 formerly participated in USA Hockey's National Team Development Program.
