by Staff Writer / San Jose Sharks

San Jose Sharks forward Joe Pavelski was ranked sixth and teammate Joe Thornton was ranked 16th on NHL Network’s new countdown series Top 20 Forwards Right Now this past Saturday night, ranking the best forwards in the National Hockey League. Pavelski finished one spot ahead of the New York Islanders’ John Tavares and one spot behind 2013 Frank J. Selke Trophy winner Jonathan Toews of the Chicago Blackhawks. Thornton finished one spot ahead of three-time All-Star Claude Giroux of the Philadelphia Flyers and one spot behind the Calgary Flames’ Johnny Gaudreau.

NHL Network’s Jamison Coyle and E.J. Hradek counted down the best forwards based on player performance over the past several seasons, with an emphasis on the 2015-2016 season. The ranking also weighted projected performance in the 2016-2017 season, taking into account players returning from injury and young players expected to break out.
