The San Jose Sharks announced today that center Patrick Marleau
has been voted as the winner of the inaugural “Sharks Fan Favorite Award,” which was determined by fan voting. Nearly 11,000 votes were submitted during the eligible period.
Marleau, the longest-tenured Sharks player, leads the team in scoring this season with 72 points (37 goals, 35 assists). He was recently selected the “Sharks Foundation Player of the Month” for March, when he led all San Jose scorers posting 19 points (11 goals, eight assists) in 14 games. In addition, he posted three game-winning goals, including one in overtime on March 8 vs. Nashville. He also scored two goals in the final four minutes of the game on March 23 at Los Angeles, including the game-tying goal at 19:55 of the third period to earn the Sharks one point. Notching points in 12 of the team’s 14 March games, Marleau posted three two-goal games and seven multiple-point games.
Marleau played in his NHL milestone 1,000th NHL game on Jan. 17 at Phoenix. He is the franchise’s all-time leader in games played (1034), goals (357), points (765), power play goals (108) and game-winning goals (68), where he ranks tied for 38th all-time in the NHL. He currently ranks second in assists (408) to Joe Thornton
Everyone who submitted a vote for the “Sharks Fan Favorite Award” was automatically entered into a random drawing which one (1) Grand Prize winner was be randomly selected from among all eligible entries that voted for the winning “Fan Favorite Player” (Marleau) received during the entry period.
The Grand Prize winner will receive two (2) tickets to the Sharks “Fan Appreciation Night” on April 9 vs. the Phoenix Coyotes, two Zamboni rides (participants must be at least 12 years old), the opportunity to meet a Sharks player and receive their game worn jersey on the ice following the game and a pre-game HP Pavilion tour for two people prior to the game.
