SAN JOSE - The San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) announced today that Patrick Marleau has been selected as the Sharks Foundation (@SharksCare) "Sharks Player of the Month" for January.
Marleau paced the Sharks with eight goals in the month of January, which was third best in the NHL. Along with his eight goals, he recorded three assists, two game-winning goals and registered a plus-1 rating. Marleau currently ranks second on the Sharks with 18 goals this season.
The Aneroid, Saskatchewan, native finished the month off with six goals in his last four games, including a franchise record-tying four-goal performance against the Colorado Avalanche. In January, he passed Hall-of-Famers Jean Ratelle and Glenn Anderson in career NHL goals and, with his goal in February, now stands in a tie for 44th place all-time with 500 goals.
Established in the 1996-97 season, the Sharks Foundation "Sharks Player of the Month" program honors the Sharks player(s) who have contributed most to the team's success each month. The Sharks Player of the Month and Year award program has donated more than $300,000 to the Sharks Foundation since the program's inception.
This is the 9th player of the month recognition for Marleau.
