Pacific Division Shootout Sept. 7

by Staff Writer / San Jose Sharks
On Sept. 7-11, Logitech Ice at San Jose will play host to the third annual "Pacific Division Shootout" featuring prospects from the Sharks, Phoenix Coyotes, Los Angeles Kings and Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. This event is a chance for fans to see the future stars of the NHL as they compete against their own peer groups. The tournament will consist of two games each day (except Friday, Sept. 9), highlighted by the Consolation and Championship Games on Sunday, Sept. 11.

"This tournament provides a great opportunity for our prospects and recent draft picks to play in a game environment against members of their own peer group," said Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson. "We bring our entire scouting staff in and evaluate where some of these kids are at and can see their progress first-hand. It also is going to enhance the divisional rivalries as the top prospects from these teams see each other more and more."

Sharks fans will be able to see first round picks Milan Michalek, Lukas Kaspar, Devin Setoguchi and Steve Bernier, along with Josh Hennessy, Josh Gorges and others.

Anaheims roster will be highlighted by Bobby Ryan (second overall pick right behind Sidney Crosby), Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry, with Jeff Tambellini and Keith Ballard highlighting the Kings and Coyotes rosters respectively.

A limited number of general admission and standing room only tickets will be available to the general public beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 29 at Logitech Ice's main counter for $10 per game. Due to an extremely limited number of available spaces, there is a two ticket limit per game for Sharks games. For visiting team games, there is no limit on tickets (within reason)

Immediately following the Pacific Division Shootout, the Sharks will swing right into their 2005 Training Camp, also held at Logitech Ice. Veteran players are scheduled to arrive on Sept. 12 and will hit the ice for drills and workouts on Sept. 13. The Sharks first preseason game will be Sept. 18 vs. the Kings at HP Pavilion.

The defending Pacific Division Champion San Jose Sharks will open the 2005-06 NHL season on Oct. 5 at Nashville.

"With all of our players under contract and the core of our 104-point team signed and ready to go, we are excited to get back on the ice," said Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson. "We really feel our team is going to mesh well with the new rule changes and will allow this squad to pick up where we left off."
