The San Jose Sharks “Hockey Fights Cancer” Awa reness Night will take place on Saturday, October 15 when they play host to the St. Louis Blues. This league-wide charitable initiative, now in its 14th season, was created to raise awareness and support for the fight against cancer.
The Sharks will host young members of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of San Jose (LLS) during Saturday’s game at HP Pavilion at San Jose. In addition, the Sharks Foundation will hold a special in-game auction at the North Entrance East Stairs to benefit the LLS. All proceeds from the auction will help “improve the quality of life of blood cancer patients and their families.” Following the game, the children will be invited into the Sharks locker room to partake in a special meet and greet with the athletes.

In addition, the Sharks Foundation will host members of local cancer charity, Jacob’s Heart Children’s Cancer and Support Services, in a Penthouse Suite generously donated by Sharks forward, Martin Havlat
. The charity will also receive a $5,000 grant from the NHL to help “improve the quality of life for children with cancer and support their families in the challenges they face.”

Sharks coaches, broadcasters and hockey executives will be wearing commemorative “Hockey Fights Cancer” ties in conjunction with “Hockey Fights Cancer” Awareness Month. Furthermore, all NHL players will wear a “Hockey Fights Cancer” decal on their helmets throughout the month of October.
Hockey Fights Cancer is a component of the NHL's "Biggest Assist Happens off the Ice" campaign, the League's long-standing tradition of addressing important social issues in North America and around the world. To date, more than $12 million has been raised to support national and local cancer research institutions, Children's Hospitals, player charities and local cancer organizations.
