NHL To Hold All-Star Jersey Auction For Charity

The National Hockey League (NHL) and National Hockey League Players' Association (NHLPA) announced today that jerseys worn by the NHL's elite during the first period of the 55th NHL All-Star Game on January 24, 2007 will be available for bidding through NHL.com and NHLPA.com. The auction will launch on April 4 at 6:00 p.m. and end on April 18 at 9:00 p.m., with proceeds benefiting Hockey Fights Cancer.
 
All-Star jerseys worn by San Jose Sharks forwards Patrick Marleau, Jonathan Cheechoo and Bill Guerin (then playing with St. Louis) are among the 38 jerseys available for bidding. A complete list of jerseys that will be available in this auction:

The Eastern and Western Conference jerseys worn during the 2007 NHL All-Star Game in Dallas marked the first time the technologically-advanced uniform system called the Rbk EDGE Uniform System(tm) was worn by NHL players in a game. All 30 NHL teams will wear the Rbk EDGE uniform in their respective colors and designs this fall with the opening of the 2007-08 NHL season.
 
Each jersey has been security-tagged, serial numbered and registered into the NHL-MeiGray Group Game-Worn Jersey Authentication Program. Each jersey comes with a Letter of Authenticity from the NHL and NHLPA. All services for this auction will be provided by the MeiGray Group and Truition, Inc. "Hockey Fights Cancer is an initiative that the NHL hockey family remains committed to supporting," said Bernadette Mansur, Executive Director of the NHL Foundation. "We're grateful to our players and everyone who helped make this worthwhile auction possible."
 
"Cancer has affected the lives of NHLPA members, their families and fans," said Devin Smith, NHLPA Director, Club Marketing & Community Relations. "It brings the players tremendous satisfaction to have their game-worn jerseys auctioned to further the Hockey Fights Cancer endeavor to find a cure."
 
Hockey Fights Cancer is a joint initiative founded in December 1998 by the National Hockey League and the National Hockey League Players' Association to raise money and awareness for hockey's most important fight. Hockey Fights Cancer is supported by NHL Member Clubs, NHL Alumni, the NHL Officials' Association, professional hockey trainers and equipment managers, corporate marketing partners, broadcast partners and fans throughout North America. To date, Hockey Fights Cancer has raised more than $9 million.
