In our previous update, our draft picks were finding success early in their respective seasons, including Tristen Robins being named WHL Player of the Month.
Many of our draft picks have stepped up this season, not only for their teams but for the Sharks as well. These players are surely ones to keep an eye on throughout the season.
Let's take a dive into this week's update of our Next Wave report, presented by Kaiser Permanente:

OHL Leading Scorer Coe named OHL Player of the Week, Gaudreau earns first shutout.
Killer Coe
2020 Draft Selection Brandon Coe was named the OHL Player of the Week on November 22 following his sixth consecutive multi-point game. Coe, who currently leads the OHL in points (39), has recorded 17 points (five goals and 12 assists) in his last seven games.
Shut Them Out
2021 Third Round Draft selection Benjamin Gaudreau earned his first shutout of the season with a 26 save performance on November 21. This past week's Sharks Prospect of the Week was also named OHL Goaltender of the Week for his performance. He is currently second in the league in SV% (0.916%) among goaltenders who have played at least ten games.
Lead by Example
Barracuda forward Jayden Halbgewachs currently leads the Barracuda with 13 points (five goals, eight assists) in 14 games. Halbgewachs also has points in seven of his last nine outings (3+7=10). The fourth-year pro also notched his second career three-point game on November 19 versus the Gulls with a goal and two assists. Halbgewachs has already surpassed his assist and point totals from last year.
Notable Players
• Barracuda forward Joachim Blichfeld scored two goals on Nov. 26 versus the Gulls, and finished the game with a team-high four shots on goal.
• Denver goaltender Magnus Chrona is currently 4-0-0 in his past four games, allowing only seven goals over that stretch.
• Colgate's Alex Young is currently 3rd on the team in shots (36) and fourth on the team in goals (four) and points (11). He is also 3rd on the team in power play goals with two.
• Danil Gushchin has recorded at least one point in six consecutive games (five goals, two assists) and leads the Niagara IceDogs in points (21) and goals (14).
• Ozzy Wiesblatt is currently riding a two-game point streak (one goal, two assists), and leads the Prince Albert Raiders in points (15).
• Barracuda defenseman Ryan Merkley picked up two assists versus the Gulls (11/26/21), and is currently tied-first on the Barracuda with eight assists. Merkley also leads all Barracuda defensemen in points (eight).
• Since joining Djurgardens IF, William Eklund has recorded three points in four games.
