Nabokov Named Seagate's "Sharks Player of the Month"

SeagateThe San Jose Sharks announced today that goaltender Evgeni Nabokov has been selected as the Seagate Technology “Sharks Player of the Month” for the month of March.  The award will be presented to him prior to the Sharks game against the Los Angeles Kings today.
Nabokov posted 8-1-2 record in 12 appearances, along with a 1.58 goals-against average and a .941 save percentage during the month of March.  The native of Ust-Kamengorsk, Kazhakstan notched three shutouts on the month, blanking Dallas on March 4, Minnesota on March 6 and Edmonton on March 11.  On the season, Nabokov is tied for second in the NHL with seven shutouts.
His run of 14 consecutive starts in net, which was a team high for the season, ended on March 15 at Phoenix where he earned a 5-1 victory over the Coyotes.  Within that span, he set a new franchise record for individual shutout streak (166:07) from March 2 at Dallas thru March 9 vs. Vancouver.  Nabokov was also recognized as the NHL's Third Star of the Week for the week of March 5-11 by posting a  2-0-1 record with a .66 goals against average (2 GA/183 minutes played) and a .976 goals against average (83/85).
Nabokov has previously won the award six times:  Oct. 2000, Dec, 2000, Nov. 2001, Feb 2002, Dec. 2003 and Nov. 2006.
Nabokov on March 11, 2007Established in the 1996-97 season, the Seagate Technology “Sharks Player of the Month” program honors the Sharks player(s) who have contributed most to the team’s success each month.  Seagate Technology will donate $2,500 on behalf of the player(s) to The Sharks Foundation.  In addition, one player will be selected as the Seagate Technology “Sharks Player of the Year” at the conclusion of the season and Seagate Technology will donate $5,000 on his behalf to The Sharks Foundation.  Seagate Technology has donated more than $220,000 to The Sharks Foundation since the program's inception.
