SAN JOSE — The San Jose Sharks announced today that goaltender Evgeni Nabokov has been selected as the Seagate Technology “Sharks Player of the Month” for the month of October. The award will be presented to him prior to tonight’s game against the Los Angeles Kings.
Nabokov posted a 6-5-1 record in 12 appearances, along with a 2.33 goals-against average and a .903 save percentage during the month of October. He finished the month tied for third in the League in wins and 15th in goals against average.
The native of Ust-Kamengorsk, Kazhakstan was one of just three goaltenders in the League to start all of his team’s games during the month joining New York Ranger Henrik Lundqvist and Calgary’s Miikka Kiprusoff. Nabokov earned his 35th career shutout on Oct. 20 vs. Nashville stopping 22 shots.
Nabokov has previously won the award seven times: Oct. 2000, Dec, 2000, Nov. 2001, Feb 2002, Dec. 2003, Nov. 2006 and March 2007.
Established in the 1996-97 season, the Seagate Technology “Sharks Player of the Month” program honors the Sharks player(s) who have contributed most to the team’s success each month. Seagate Technology will donate $2,500 on behalf of the player(s) to The Sharks Foundation. In addition, one player will be selected as the Seagate Technology “Sharks Player of the Year” at the conclusion of the season and Seagate Technology will donate $5,000 on his behalf to The Sharks Foundation.
