SAN JOSE — The San Jose Sharks announced today that goaltender Evgeni Nabokov has been selected as the Seagate Technology “Sharks Player of the Month” for the month of December. The award was be presented to him at Thursday's game against the Calgary Flames.
Nabokov posted a stellar 10-4-1 record while helping lead the team to a franchise record (tied for 2nd longest in NHL history) 10-game road winning streak (Nov. 14 at Dallas–present). During the month, he posted a .925 save percentage, a 1.96 goals-against average and two shutouts.
In addition, Nabokov was named as the NHL’s “Third Star” for the month of December on Jan. 2. He was also named one of the NHL’s “Three Stars” (third star) for his play for the week ending Dec. 30, posting a record of 3-0-0, a 1.34 goals-against average, a .949 save percentage and one shutout.
Overall, he leads the NHL in victories with 22, is third in goals-against average (1.99), first in minutes played 2318:50, ninth in save percentage (.919) while starting all 39 games for San Jose this season. He is the only NHL goaltender this season to have started every one of his team’s games.
Nabokov has won the Seagate Technology “Sharks Player of the Month” Award a franchise-record nine times.
Established in the 1996-97 season, the Seagate Technology “Sharks Player of the Month” program honors the Sharks player(s) who have contributed most to the team’s success each month. Seagate Technology will donate $2,500 on behalf of the player(s) to The Sharks Foundation. In addition, one player will be selected as the Seagate Technology “Sharks Player of the Year” at the conclusion of the season and Seagate Technology will donate $5,000 on his behalf to The Sharks Foundation. Seagate Technology has donated more than $260,000 to The Sharks Foundation since the program's inception.
