SAN JOSE, CA - The Sharks Foundation (@SharksCare) will donate more than $9,500 to the American Red Cross with funds raised through the 50/50 Raffle during the San Jose Sharks three 2016-17 preseason home games. The funds will be allocated toward California Wildfire Relief for fires such as the Loma fire, which started in the Santa Cruz Mountains of Santa Clara County last week.
"We have heard tragic stories about local individuals who have lost everything in the recent wildfires," said Heather Hooper, Sharks Foundation manager. "Our hope is that these funds not only provide the basic necessities needed most during this critical time, but that it also provides hope for those who have been affected."
This year, the California State Legislature approved 50/50 Raffles for professional sports teams in California. The Sharks Foundation launched its 50/50 Raffle on September 27 at the Sharks first preseason home game and will continue the raffle at every home game this season. Non-profit beneficiaries will receive 50-percent of the total jackpot each night through the Sharks Foundation. The Foundation estimates it will donate $220,000 through its 50/50 Raffle during the 2016-17 season.
