I hope everyone had a good Christmas. Mine went very well, although I wish I could have seen more family. Getting back on the ice with the guys was the best Christmas present. It was a good feeling. Now I just have to wait for the next step of getting back on the ice in a game. The practices are tiring, but it sure beats the alternative.
I told you last week how I cheated and opened a Christmas present early to find my brother had sent me a Scottish soccer jersey. I have a good story about a Christmas present from when I was a kid.
I wasn’t the biggest kid and was always trying to get bigger and put on weight. I would flex my muscles and weigh myself once a week and celebrate if I gained a couple of pounds.
One year, my grandpa told me he was getting me the greatest present ever. I was so excited on Christmas morning I could hardly stand it. When I opened the package, it was a scale. Yes, a scale. I played it off like it was the greatest thing ever, but a scale to weight myself on just wasn’t what I had in mind for the “greatest present ever.” Don’t worry, I was taken care of pretty well over the years, so it makes for a good story.
Now, I get to play some Santa thanks to my job and spoil my family a little bit. I hope they’re beginning to get excited for Christmas like 10 year olds.
We’re off on a three game road trip and I am excited to be going and participating in all team events. There is light at the end of the tunnel and I can’t wait for that first game. It will be like a delayed Christmas present for me.
