Sharks left wing Milan Michalek is listed as day-to-day after suffering an elbow strain on a hit from behind in the club’s 5-0 victory against Phoenix Monday night. He did travel with the team on their two-game road trip to Dallas and Phoenix.
BOYNTON SUSPENDED, GRETZKY FINED TSN.ca reported on Tuesday that Phoenix Coyotes defenceman Nick Boynton has been suspended for one game and head coach Wayne Gretzky fined $10,000 as a result of Boynton's altercation with Steve Bernier in the third period of Monday's game against the San Jose Sharks.
Boynton, who was assesed a two-minute minor for instigating, a five-minute major for fighting and an automatic 10-minute misconduct on the play, grabbed Bernier from behind and began punching the San Jose forward with 4:10 remaining in regulation.
By rule, a player that is called for instigating a fight with less than five minutes remaining in regulation is subject to an automatic one-game suspension. The rule also states that the head coach receives an automatic $10,000 fine.
The players' suspension money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund while the coach's fine goes to the NHL Foundation.
