Marleau Named Seagate POTM

by Staff Writer / San Jose Sharks

The San Jose Sharks announced today that center and team captain Patrick Marleau has been selected as the Seagate Technology “Sharks Player of the Month” for November. The award will be presented prior to the Sharks game against the Atlanta Thrashers tonight.

Marleau led the team in points for the month of November, posting eight (four goals, four assists) in 12 games. While notching points in seven of the Sharks 12 contests, Marleau also tallied a five-game point streak (three goals, three assists) from Nov. 19 vs. Phoenix thru Nov. 26 vs. Detroit. In addition, Marleau posted five shots on Nov. 16 vs. Vancouver and six shots on Nov. 19 vs. Phoenix and Nov. 26 vs. Detroit.

Marleau was named the NHL’s Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Dec. 4. Marleau posted a pair of three-point games as the Sharks opened their inter-conference schedule with consecutive road victories against Northeast Division opponents. The Sharks captain tallied three assists and was named Second Star of a 5-0 victory at Buffalo Dec. 3, ending the Sabres' five-game winning streak. In addition, he recorded a goal and two assists and earned First Star honors in a 5-4 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Dec. 4.

Prior to the start of the season, Marleau signed a new three-year contract that extended his tenure with San Jose through the first two seasons of possible unrestricted free agency.

This marks the third time the six-foot-four, 220-pound native of Aneroid, Saskatchewan has been tabbed with the honor. Most recently, he was selected in Dec. 2003.

Established in the 1996-97 season, the Seagate Technology “Sharks Player of the Month” program honors the Sharks player(s) who have contributed most to the team’s success each month. Seagate Technology will donate $2,500 on behalf of the player(s) to The Sharks Foundation. In addition, one player will be selected as the Seagate Technology “Sharks Player of the Year” at the conclusion of the season, and Seagate Technology will donate $5,000 on his behalf to The Sharks Foundation. Seagate Technology has donated more than $180,000 to The Sharks Foundation since the program's inception.

“Seagate has made social responsibility one of the values that forms the foundation of our business, and we take pride in the thousands of Seagate employees who convert our social responsibility beliefs into action,” said Bill Watkins, president and CEO, Seagate Technology. “The more than 2,000 Bay Area employees of Seagate understand and appreciate the commitment of like-minded organizations such as The Sharks Foundation; whose programming platform touches lives throughout Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties.
