USA Hockey has recognized Logitech Ice at San Jose and Sharks Ice at Fremont as the largest adult hockey league program in the nation. Logitech Ice is home to 120 teams playing in 18 divisions while Sharks Ice plays host to 17 teams competing in three divisions, giving the facilities a combined total of more than 2,400 registered players.
The Logitech Ice Adult Hockey League (LIAHL) began in early 1994 with only eight teams and has steadily increased participation, team size and divisions since. Last year, LIAHL made a powerful impression after announcing their enrollment included more than 100 teams.
Logitech Ice and Sharks Ice attribute their success to the growing popularity of youth hockey programs offered at both facilities. In addition, many participants who have graduated from college as well as adults are returning to the ice to participate. The youth ice hockey programs, in addition to the growing number of hockey fans and transplants to the Bay Area, have all contributed to the continued success of the adult programs at Logitech Ice and Sharks Ice.
This summer, there are 1,200 adult league games scheduled and another 1,600 games planned for winter, making a total of nearly 2,800 games for the year.
