by Staff Writer / San Jose Sharks
Logitech Ice at San Jose and Sharks Ice at Fremont will host the 2006 Pacific Regional Silver Stick Tournament from Nov. 23-26.

The Silver Stick Tournament features 53 teams and more than 800 youth hockey players from nine different divisions (Mite, Squirt A, Squirt B, PeeWee A, PeeWee B, Bantam A, Bantam B, Midget 16U and Midget 18U) throughout California, Oregon and Arizona, with each team guaranteed at least four games before the championship game. The championship game determines the teams that will advance to the International Silver Stick Finals in January 2007.

Teams will take the ice on Thursday, Nov. 23 and Friday, Nov. 24 at 9:30 a.m. and continue playing until 10:15 p.m., while Saturday’s games will go from 7 a.m. - 7:30 p.m. The championship games will take place on Sunday, Nov. 26 from 7:15-11:30 a.m.

Many of the teams participating in the Pacific Regional Silver Stick Tournament will also attend Sharks games on Nov. 22 (vs. LA) and Nov. 25 (vs. NJ) in groups.

This is the second year Logitech Ice at San Jose and Sharks Ice at Fremont has hosted the Regional Qualifying tournament.

Last year’s Pacific Regional Silver Stick Tournament at Logitech Ice and Sharks Ice saw seven of the nine teams from Logitech advancing to the Silver Stick Championships. Of those seven teams, three emerged as regional winners for their division. The Squirt B and Midget 16A1 teams both advanced to the Silver Stick Finals in Ontario Canada, while the Bantam A team advanced to the Silver Stick Finals in Michigan.

Silver Stick International, Inc. has been around since 1958. It was started in Richmond, Ontario “to promote citizenship and International goodwill through the medium of Silver Stick Hockey and to foster sportsmanship through International competition for youth of all nations.”
