Congratulations to the Jr. Sharks 12 U Girls Hockey Team, USA Hockey's Tier II National Champions
The Junior Sharks 12 U girls hockey team today defeated the East Coast Wizards in overtime by a score of 1-0 to capture USA Hockey’s Tier II Girls National Championship. This is the first national title for the Junior Sharks program.
Led by Head Coach Rick Burke, the 12 U team advanced to the title game in Anaheim by virtue of their 3-1 win over the New England Jr. Falcons on April 2. In the championship game, Goaltender Laurel Philipp notched the shutout and forward Lexie Anderson scored at 8:54 of the first overtime session.
“The entire Sharks organization is thrilled for the Junior Sharks program for this monumental accomplishment,” said San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson. “This is a moment the girls, their families and friends will never forget. It is also an important milestone representing the growth of hockey in the Bay Area and specifically, the incredible work done by Sharks Ice Hockey Director Robert Savoie, Junior Sharks President Tony Zasowski and Head Coach Burke. The quality of hockey teams coming out of Northern California is now on par with any other area of the United States.”
