SAN JOSE, California —
The San Jose Sharks announced today that center Joe Pavelski
is the winner of the 2011-12 PlayStation® “Three Stars of the Game” award. Pavelski will be honored with an award from PlayStation, in a presentation that will follow tonight’s game against the Los Angeles Kings at HP Pavilion at San Jose. On behalf of the winner, Sony Computer Entertainment America will present a check for $2,500 to the Sharks Foundation and Pavelski will receive a PlayStation®3 (PS3™) system with a VIP pack of games.
Entering play tonight, Pavelski is tied for first on the team in goals (31, T-20th NHL), fourth on the team points (60) and first in shots (268). He is third in the NHL in face-off percentage, and among NHL forwads, seventh in blocked shots (82) and tenth in takeaways (72).
For the first time in his career, Pavelski broke the 30-goal plateau scoring twice against the Dallas Stars on March 31. He becomes the first American-born Sharks player to score 30+ goals.
The five-foot eleven forward was named the Brocade “Sharks Player of the Month (co-player with Marc-Edouard Vlasic
) for the month of October.
Pavelski, a native of Plover, WI, was originally selected by San Jose in the seventh round (205th overall) in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
At the end of each 2011-12 regular season game, players received five points for being chosen first star, three points for second star and one point for third star as listed on the official NHL game sheet distributed by the game’s official scorekeepers. Each star is chosen by members of the media based on the player’s performance each game.
