The San Jose Sharks don’t care who or where they play in Round 2 of the 2006 Playoffs presented by Intersil, but they now know where they will start series number two. Thanks to Edmonton’s upset of top-seeded Detroit, and Colorado’s previous upset of second seeded Dallas, the Sharks are one of the two highest seeds remaining out West. In fact, if Anaheim can win Game 7 in Calgary, the Sharks can have home ice through the Western Conference Finals.
While San Jose will be playing at HP Pavilion at some point this weekend, it is unclear who the opponent will be and when the series will begin. Should Calgary defend their home ice, San Jose would open Round 2 at home against playoff rival Colorado. Should Anaheim pull the upset, Team Teal will play host to Edmonton in a first ever postseason matchup for the two franchises.
“We’ve shown we can play anywhere,” said Sharks Captain Patrick Marleau. “We just have to wait and see who we play.”
