Greiss Sports Pink Helmet

by San Jose Sharks Staff / San Jose Sharks

For the month of October, Sharks goaltending prospect and 2006 German Olympian Thomas Greiss is going Pink at the Rink to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  For the remaining four games in October, Greiss will be wearing a specially designed Pink Sharks goalie mask to highlight the Sharks involvement.

Greiss will be the first professional hockey goaltender to sport a pink mask for the month of October. This special mask, which is a mirror image of Greiss’ regular mask, is Pink with swimming sharks and has a Pink Ribbon on the front.  The back of the mask dawns a Sharks Charities logo with Sharks Charities Chairwoman Mary C. Defeudis’ signature.

At the end of October, the Pink mask will be auctioned off with the proceeds going to the Hope Lodge via Sharks Charities. Hope Lodge is a free, temporary housing facility for cancer patients who are undergoing treatment in eastern Massachusetts, and their families.

“The Worcester Sharks wanted to do something different,” said Sharks President and CEO Michael Lehr. “Thomas was very gracious to agree to wear the mask and by him doing so, the Sharks will drum up awareness for the month and help support the Hope Lodge.”

The mask was designed and painted by the Worcester Sharks Manager of Youth Hockey and Community Relations, Michael Myers.  Myers has designed and painted several masks, including Conn Smythe Winner Cam Ward of the Carolina Hurricanes and Edmonton Oilers Goaltender Dwayne Roloson.

The Sharks will be hosting “Pink at the Rink” when they play the Providence Bruins on Sunday, October 21st at 4p.m. Sharks 2006-07 “Man of the Year” Riley Armstrong will be making a special announcement at the game. Sharks fans may purchase two tickets and two Pink autograph pucks for $40 with a portion of the proceeds to be donated to the Hope Lodge via Sharks Charities.

This weekend the Sharks host the Lowell Devils on Saturday, October 20th at 7p.m and the Providence Bruins on Sunday, October 21st at 4:05 p.m. For more information regarding Sharks Charities, Pink at the Rink, season tickets, group tickets, and flex packs contact the Worcester Sharks Front Office at 508.929.0500 or by visiting the Sharks newly designed website at www.sharksahl.com.
