Team Canada was not the only breaking Olympic news on Wednesday. It was a foregone conclusion, but Thomas Greiss
was named as a member of Team Germany.
Greiss joins already named Sharks Olympians Evgeni Nabokov, Douglas Murray
, Dan Boyle
, Joe Thornton
, Dany Heatley and Patrick Marleau
in heading to Vancouver.
“I’m just happy to be on the team,” said Greiss.
Germany is far from one of the favorites, but they have a team of proud players and will look to make an impression.
“It’s a great experience to show German hockey to the world and how we play,” said Greiss.
Someone half joked about Germany winning the tournament.
“There are a lot of good teams to play against, but we’ll play our best. Why not?” quipped Greiss about bringing home the gold.
While Greiss is the only current Sharks player on the roster, several former Sharks players will join him on Team Germany.
“Marco, Christian and Marcel will be there and it will be great to see all those guys,” said Greiss.
The Sharks best hope for another Olympian lies with Team USA’s announcement on Jan. 1 following the Winter Classic.
Randy Hahn will be on KNBR today at 2 p.m. to discuss the Sharks Olympians.
