After making a splash in the 2003-04 playoffs by assisting on the game and series winning goal by Mark Smith in the Western Conference Quarterfinals against St. Louis, Marcel Goc earned a permanent spot on the Sharks roster in 2005-06. The German-born center represented his country in the Olympics in 2006 between playing in 81 games for the Sharks. The former first-round draft pick of the Sharks (20th overall) posted 22 points (four goals, 18 assists) in 2005-06 and. This season, Goc has five goals and five assists and leads the team in faceoff percentage (53.7%).
recently sat down with Goc to ask him a few questions.
RR: Who do you hang out with the most away from the ice? What do you guys do?
MG: I hang out with Christian (Ehrhoff) the most out of anyone. We go see movies and just hang out really. Yesterday we went bowling.
RR: What goals did you set for yourself at the beginning of the season?
MG: I just wanted to be an important part of the team and do anything I could to help the team win.
RR: What do you do to stay in shape in the off-season?
MG: Everyone gets a pretty good training program from the Sharks, so I do that. I train and skate with my two brothers.
RR: What is your favorite NHL city to visit and why?
MG: I like to visit Vancouver. It’s a nice and clean place.
RR: What has been your most memorable hockey moment?
MG: My most memorable moment was when I got drafted and also my first NHL goal in the 2004 playoffs.
RR: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
MG: I hope I’m still over here playing.
RR: Where will you live when your NHL days are over, US or Germany and why?
MG: I will be living in Germany. It’s home. I like it there, that’s where all my family and friends are there and I bought a house there.
RR: What is the best part about being a San Jose Shark?
MG: We have a good team, I like the city, it’s close to San Francisco, weather is great and the fans are awesome.
