SAN JOSE, CA - The San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) Sept. 9 #GILROYSTRONG fundraisers, led by team captain, Logan Couture (@Logancouture), raised more than $42,000, which will be donated to The Gilroy Foundation in support of those affected by the tragic events at the Gilroy Garlic Festival on July 28.
Sharks players Couture, Brenden Dillon (@BDillon04), Tomas Hertl (@TomasHertl48), Erik Karlsson (@ErikKarlsson65) and Kevin Labanc (@Str8ToTheBanc), along with Sharks legends Jonathan Cheechoo and Jamie Baker (@Bakes_Jamie13), and Sharks Radio Play-by-Play Announcer Dan Rusanowsky (@DanRusanowsky) took time prior to the Sharks 2019 training camp opening to attend two events on Sept. 9 in downtown Gilroy.
The Sharks organization would like to publicly thank and acknowledge our partners in these events:
- Adam Sanchez and Ann Zyburra, owners of The Milias Restaurant, graciously donated all net proceeds from the dinner to the Gilroy Foundation.
- Christine West, of the Gilroy Veteran's Hall, offered their facility to host the autograph signing prior to the dinner.
- Many local business donated items towards a silent and live auction, held at the dinner, which raised nearly $19,000.
Earlier this year, the Sharks Foundation (@SharksCare) provided an additional $10,000 donation to the Silicon Valley Community Foundation (@siliconvalleycf), ensuring that victims receive services and support to offset expenses and emotional trauma related to the impact of the incident. Partial net proceeds from yesterday's Sharks Fan Fest will also support SVCF.
Furthermore, the Sharks Foundation will host "Heroes Appreciation Night" on Mon., Jan. 27 vs. the Anaheim Ducks.
The Sharks Foundation will host and honor the first responders who assisted those in need during the Gilroy tragedy. Some first responders will be acknowledged during a special on-ice pregame ceremony and will participate in the ceremonial puck drop. Proceeds from the Sharks Foundation's 50/50 Raffle presented by Black Oak Casino Resort and in-game auction that night will benefit the Gilroy Foundation to aid them in long-term city projects and future Gilroy Garlic Festivals.
The San Jose Barracuda, the Sharks American Hockey League affiliate, will wear and make available via auction "Gilroy Strong" branded warm-up jerseys which will be worn before all home games throughout the month of December (five games). Proceeds from the jersey auction and Chuck-A-Puck at the Sat., Dec. 14 vs. the Stockton Heat game will go to the Sharks Foundation, which will allocate the funds to the Gilroy Foundation. Additionally, families of those with lost or injured loved ones will be invited to attend the Dec. 14 Barracuda game at no charge with an additional discounted ticket offer going out to all Gilroy residents, students, and employees.
