Gooood morning San Jose! Today the Sharks wrap up the first road trip of the season with an early game in Buffalo - puck drop is at 10AM Pacific (1PM local), so get your coffee ready for today's morning matinee.
The Sharks are coming off a somewhat disappointing 2-1 loss in Boston that saw the Sharks out-attempt the Bruins 71 to 56, but still not manage to score more than one goal. The one goal was a big one, however; Joe Thornton earned his 1,398th career point, which puts him into a tie for 20th all-time in NHL history.
Like the Sharks, the Sabres have gotten off to a slow start with only a 3-6-2 record (one of those losses coming in San Jose). Although, this early in the season the win-loss record doesn't tell the whole story; while the Sharks and Sabres have the same number of standings points, the Sharks have an even goal differential while the Sabres are -14.
Regardless of what the standings say, it's always a tough time for the Sharks in Buffalo. In the 19 games the two teams have played there, the Sharks have gone 2-15-2, with the last win being a 2-1 OT win in 2015 (the other was Joe Thornton's first game as a San Jose Shark).
