Sharks Power Play continues to sizzle at HP Pavilion

Logan Couture scored a power play goal early in overtime to send the HP Pavilion into a frenzy as the Sharks took a 2-1 win in Game 3 and now trail the best of seven series 2-1 vs. the Los Angeles Kings in the Western Conference Semifinals as the series continues at the HP Pavilion on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Please note all games will be carried LIVE locally on NBCSN / 98.5-102.1 FM KFOX and the Sharks Radio Network.

Lineup changes for Game 4?

San Jose: Martin Havlat left Game 3 after playing 4:25 of the first period for San Jose (first game since getting injured in Game 1 vs. Vancouver). Logan Couture left briefly in the second period after stepping on a puck but returned. Tim Kennedy was a scratch for Havlat. Defenseman Jason Demers is day-to-day and could see action in this series.

"Guys really stepped up," Pavelski said about Game 3. "The fourth line played a lot. Guys stepped up with short shifts. We had good game management. We did a good job."

Los Angeles: forward Jarret Stoll left Game 1 late in the second period after he was checked by Raffi Torres and did not play in Games 2 or 3 – he was replaced by Brad Richardson. Kyle Clifford and Willie Mitchell are still out with undisclosed injuries. Jordan Nolan did not dress in Game 3 and was replaced by rookie Tanner Pearson who played just 5:44 in his NHL playoffs debut. Keaton Ellerby replaced Alec Martinez on the backend for Game 3.

Did You Know?:

*HP PP… with two more power play goals on home ice in Game 3, the Sharks are now 8-for-20 on the power play through the first three home playoff games (40%)… the Sharks went 11-for-42 at the HP Pavilion during the 2010 playoff run (26.2%).

*1st time for everything… the San Jose Sharks have never won a series when dropping the first two games of a series. The Sharks have dropped their previous nine series when falling in a 0-2 series hole. San Jose has been swept twice, lost in five games twice, and were eliminated in six games five times in those instances.

*OT Niemi!... with the overtime win in Game 3, Anti Niemi surpassed Evgeni Nabokov for most overtime playoff wins by a Sharks goaltender. Niemi now has eight OT wins with the SJ Sharks… eight of his 14 Sharks’ playoff wins have come in overtime! Overall, Niemi is 11-2 all-time in NHL playoff games with San Jose and Chicago.

*More times than not…seven of the last 11 Game 3’s for the SJ Sharks have gone to overtime. The 2nd longest game in Sharks history occurred in a Game 3. (3-2 loss at 42:24 in Edmonton on May 10, 2006).

*OT vs. Kings… the Sharks are now 4-0 vs. the Kings in playoff overtime games. Four of the five wins vs. the Kings in the playoffs have come in overtime.

The Bottom Line:

"We felt we let one get away in L.A., so we had to come back and answer," said Todd McLellan about the Sharks 2-1OTW in Game 3.

The Sharks are 3-0 at the HP Pavilion with EIGHT power play goals already this post season! San Jose has got to be feeling pretty good heading into Game 4 on Tuesday… but they cannot let their guard down. Game 3 could have easily gone either way (could be said for Games 1 and 2 as well) and the Sharks need to be even better in Game 4. Meanwhile, the Kings may have some déjà vu sneak into their minds from their last series vs. the Blues…. a series in which St. Louis had a 2-0 series lead before the Kings won four straight…. something the Sharks would love to do right back against the Kings!

GO Sharks GO!
