The All-Star Game is in my hometown of Ottawa and one of the great joys of an Ottawa winter is skating on the Ottawa Canal; The longest skating rink in the world. Click on the photo above to get a glimpse. #BringsOutTheKidInAllOfUs
March 20, April 5 and April 7. Mark those dates! They are the last 3 games between the Sharks and Kings. #TwoTeamRaceForPacific?
Todd McLellan who is in Ottawa representing the Western Conference as a coach in the All-Star Game just gets it. Just getting it meaning understanding hockey from a technical and tactical standpoint. His best asset aside from his incredible preparation is his ability to communicate and deal with people. #TheStatsSpeakForThemselves
•179-77-37 Regular Season with San Jose •Sharks have been to the Conference Finals 3 times in their history, twice with McLellan •Won the Stanley Cup as an Assistant Coach in Detroit •Won the 2003 Calder Cup with Houston as the Head Coach
Last year at the All-Star break, how many people picked Boston to win the Stanley Cup? #SoYou’reSayingWeHaveAChance_Eh!
Pavelski on the difference of losing to Vancouver in regulation or Edmonton in the Shootout, “A loss is a loss and it hurts either way.” #HonestAnalysisComesWithTheTerritory
Sharks have 5 situations of back-to-back games left this season. They have two days between games on 3 occasions. They have 3 days between games 1 time – and it’s after the Phoenix game Feb 4. Yes, the Sharks get 6 days off for the All-Star break, play 3 games then get 3 days off? #HowAreThose5DaysOffAfterThe1stRegularSeasonGameDoingNow?
I played on the same team as Owen Nolan in Quebec and San Jose. He was one of the fiercest competitors I have ever played with but this week it’s his famous goal at the All-Star game in San Jose that gets the nod for BakesTakes13:

Earlier this week Joey Crabb and Carl Gunnarsson of the Leafs had a little disagreement in practice that led to the gloves being dropped? So if the NHL eliminates fighting, what happens if two players on the same team fight in practice. #NoInstigatorRuleInPractice!
Speaking of fights, I didn't have many fight cards when I played because, well, I figured out early I could take a punch and my marshmallow punches weren't helping matters. However, I can tell you that I fought the very tough, and crazy Gregg Smythe in practice one day and I declared myself the victor.
In a two-on-two down-low drill in practice I snuck in behind the much bigger Smythe (6'4", 240lbs) and set a soft pick. He turned, ran into me, got mad, crosschecked me not once but twice. I shared an expletive or two and crosschecked him back. He said 'let's go' in not so many words so I dropped my gloves and punched him in the face a couple of times.Players on the team jumped in immediately knowing this was a miss-match of huge proportions as a tough guy was fighting a rookie out of college, and they figured it was easier to break the fight up early than scrape me off the ice.
Alas, because of the quick decision, I was pronounced the victor. Smythe's nickname was Big Bird and he told me if the fight had gone on longer he would have beaten me up. I said, "I know, but it didn't and I won". #DidIMentionWeWereRoommatesToo
For the All-Star Break I would like to give the 2nd Star to the San Jose Sharks organization for the tremendous product they have put on the ice for such a long time. Every year the Sharks are in the mix at the top of the standings and are in contention for The Stanley Cup. #LotsOfTeamsWouldLoveToHaveTheSharksRecordThePastDecade
And 1st Star goes to the awesome San Jose Sharks fans. The players today say the same thing the players said when I played for the team back in the 1990’s – Sharks fans are the best. Players love playing here, in front of loud fans at HP and while the expectations are high I know the players want to win the Cup for their loyal fan base.
