Logan Couture hit the post with 8 seconds left, but that was the last effort and Nashville won 2-1.

Antti Niemi is on the bench for the extra skater and the Sharks used their timeout.

The Sharks attack has been consistent and relentless for the past few minutes.  If they keep it up, the goal will come.

San Jose came off a flurry of shots on net.  They desperately need to find one to go in with eight minutes remaining in the game.

Patrick Marleau attempted two backhanders in succession, but couldn't lift them high enough.

Nashville took their second lead of the game and again it was a rebound situation.  Sergei Kostitsyn grabbed the rebound before Antti Niemi could recover and roofed the puck.

Benn Ferriero was hooked and the Sharks went up a man for two minutes.

Slick passing with Thornton, Marleau and Setoguchi led to an excellent early opportunity.

Patrick Marleau sailed one just above the cross bar in the last minute of the second and Douglas Murray delivered a pounding hit, but period finished tied 1-1.

Torrey Mitchell pushed a puck through the crease from his knees, but it went through harmlessly.

San Jose had grabbed 63 percent of the faceoffs at this point.

San Jose had doubled Nashville up in shots, 26-13.

The game is tied at one thanks to skill of Logan Couture.  The Shaks young center carried the puck over the blueline andwaited for Jamal Mayers to catch up on the other side to create a two-on-one rush.  Then Couture promptly ripped the puck to the top corner where there was nothing Pekka Rinne could do.

San Jose could not come up with the powr play goal on the time left over from the first period.

San Jose posted an astonishing 18 shot in the opening period, but finished trailing 1-0.

It seems that every time Joe Thornton's line stepped on the ice, they were attacking and they put San Jose on their first power play with 1:27 left in the first.

Jamal Mayers tried jamming one in out front, but the puck was quickly picked up.

San Jose had dominated the early play, but Nashville potted the first goal.  Antti Niemi made a first stop, but David Legwand beat everyone to the rebound for the easy score.

Great great little give and go with Jamal Mayers and Ryane Clowe gave the Newfoundland product a chance in close.  The first goal could not be found though.

A turnover in the D zone put the puck right on the stick of Patric Hornqvist, but Antti Niemi swallowed up the puck.

Five minutes in and the Predators still don't have a shot, mostly because San Jose is dominating the offensive play.

On his second shift, Joe Thornton's group kept the play in the offensive zone for an extended time period and posted a second shot.

Great moment early where all ten skaters began moving up ice, with none realizing it was still deep in the Sharks offensive zone.  Devin Setoguchi put a shot on net 16 seconds intot he game to test Pekka Rinne early.

Antti Niemi and Pekka Rinne will be the starting goaltending matchup for the 5 p.m. game.  Joe Thornton, Patrick Marleau and Devin Setoguchi are up front with Dan Boyle and Douglas Murray taking the first shift on the blueline.

Nasvhille started former Sharks center Marcle Goc.
