SAN JOSE, California —
The San Jose Sharks announced today that center Andrew Desjardins
has been selected as this year’s PlayStation® “Sharks Rookie of the Year” in voting conducted by a panel of Bay Area media. Desjardins will be recognized in a video presentation during tonight’s game against the Los Angeles Kings at HP Pavilion at San Jose. On behalf of the winner, Sony Computer Entertainment America will present a check for $2,500 to the Sharks Foundation and Desjardins will receive a PlayStation®3 (PS3™) system with a VIP pack of games.
Desjardins, 25, has played in 75 games this season, posting 17 points (4 goals, 13 assists) along with 47 penalty minutes. He is fourth on the Sharks in game-winning goals (3) and fifth in penalty minutes. Desjardins’ 361 face-offs this season do not qualify him as one of the NHL leaders but his 52.9 winning percentage is tops among any NHL rookie who has taken at least 100 draws this season. He recorded his first career two-goal game in the season opener against the Phoenix Coyotes.
The six-foot-one, 200-pound center from Lively, Ontario played in 17 games for San Jose last season, registering one goals and two assists while also playing in three of the Sharks playoff games, chipping in one goal. He played 58 games for the Worcester Sharks, scoring 29 points (12 goals, 17 assists).
Desjardins was originally signed by San Jose as a free agent on June 26, 2010.
