The Sharks are bringing in defenseman Andreas Lilja as a tryout player for training camp. Lilja spent the past five seasons with the Detroit Red Wings and Sharks Head Coach Todd McLellan is very familiar with him from his time as an assistant coach in the Motor City.
The 35-year-old, six-foot-three, blueliner has registered 74 points (15 goals, 59 assists) in 478 career games with Detroit, Florida and Los Angeles.
"He's going to make it a more competitive camp because he's a veteran player," said McLellan. "He is familiar with the coaching staff and our system because it is similar to what he came from. Once camp starts, he is like any other player and his play will dictate whether he (gets a contract)."
