Day Before the Home Opener

by Jamie McGinn / San Jose Sharks
The big topic with me is I got my haircut and it wasn’t just a trim. It’s the first time in five years it’s been this close. Just cleaning things up and seeing how things work out. The hair has been long and curly for a while.

Most parents like shorter hair on their kids, but my mom likes the curls. She saw me on Skype yesterday and was kind of in shock because she hasn’t seen me with short hair in a long time. When I was younger I had a curly mullet that my mom just thought was great. Shaved on the sides and curly in back. Then when I started going to school and figured out no one else had a curly mullet, it wasn’t very cool.

I haven’t seen my family since I left August 29, but they are planning a trip out here in November, so I’m looking forward to seeing them and both sets of grandparents. It should be a lot of fun. They get to see two games and they’re going to Vegas after. Hopefully I can get them a couple of goals and they will like this part of the trip better.

Away from the rink, laundry is the big thing, I finally got it done. It took a little longer than I wanted because I’m at the hotel and there is only one washing machine. I think next time I’m going to go to the laundromat so it will go a little quicker. I’m embarrassed I had to ask Frazer laundry tips yesterday and he was helping me, so it was kind of embarrassing.

All the boys on the team are really excited about the home opener tomorrow because we haven’t played in so long. We’re excited and we know the crowd will be excited. We need to come out strong tomorrow.

Cheer loud tomorrow.
