Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson made a valiant effort to try and acquire Niklas Hjalmarsson from the Chicago Blackhawks, but on Monday Chicago matched the Sharks offer to the restricted free agent blueliner.
"We appreciate Niklas' interest in coming to San Jose and we respect the process as it has unfolded,” said Wilson. “We will continue preparing our team as we head towards the start of the 2010-11 season."
While San Jose just missed out on Hjalmarsson that does not mean Wilson is done with efforts to ramp up his club.
"As we have said in the past, we are always looking at ways that we can improve our team and we will continue to do so moving forward."
